Edinburg, Texas
The city of Edinburg, TX was first named Chapin after the town site promoter, it was
later renamed Edinburg in 1911. Hidalgo County seat and western gateway to
Lower Rio Grande Valley, Edinburg is the center of vast vegetable and citrus
culture. Industries include food processing, furniture, foundry products, fertilizers, oil,
and dairy products.
Edinburg is the home of the University of Texas-Pan American.
The Hidalgo County Historical Museum offers an excellent interpretation of the
Hispanic-accented area's colorful history; including pioneer ranch and home items,
clothing, early documents, and photos. The museum is housed in the restored
county jail. Located at 121 E. McIntyre St.
