Marvell Accepts Award For Freddy Fender Impersonation
( re-printed from The Branson Daily Independent )
Johnny Cash once called James Marvell
"...one of the finest singers around”.
After many years of writing and recording hit songs in three fields of music,
entertainer James Marvell was delighted when Gary Wackerly of 'The
Branson Show Awards' presented an award to him for his impersonation
of Freddy Fender.
Marvell’s long career began in the 60s with the group Mercy and the million
selling record, “Love Can Make You Happy”. It charted at #2 just under the
Beatles' "Get Back" followed by Elvis and many other pop greats.
In the 70s, James formed the long-haired anti-drug duo,
The Country Cavaleers who would often appear with Freddy Fender.
Freddy even mentioned that he was interested in recording one of Marvell’s
originals. The Cavaleers were acknowledged as The First Country Outlaws
by many Grand Old Opry Stars and national publications.

Country gospel music became his focus in the 90s and he broke into the
charts with many of his songs.
Marvell wrote his moving end-time composition, “Prophecy” 40 years ago.
He was honored to sing it on TBN and most recently Cashbox Magazine did
a full page story on this timely song.
Marvell has had a string of Country Gospel hits, including
“I Prayed And I Prayed” written by Branson Legend Jim Owen.
This song became the first to break out of Branson and reach #1 on the
national charts
