The Area Agency on Aging/Lower RGV Development Council/Ombudsman Program is
looking for Volunteers to help them advocate for residents of local nursing homes and assisted
living facilities in relation to resident rights, quality of care, and attempt to resolve resident
complaints. There are two paid staff to cover the tri-facilities.
For this reason, the Program is in need of volunteers to help handle the responsibility of helping
residents address their issues/concerns. Volunteers go through a 30-hour training, then a period of
internship where they are accompanied by a staff Ombudsman to the nursing homes. Once the
intern becomes certified by the State, they become a Certified Volunteer Ombudsman and are
allowed to go on their own. If you have a couple of hours to spare and are interested in making a
real difference in the lives of those living who must live in nursing homes or assisted living facilities,
please contact an Ombudsman.
In Hidalgo County, please contact Molly Segovia at 956-682-3481 or

On behalf of Catholic Charities of the RGV (CCRGV) we would like to ask you to consider
donating any items or gift certificate to help our program be a success. CCRGV is the charitable
branch of the Diocese of Brownsville, and we are in charge of many projects that provide
assistance to the poor and most vulnerable population in our community. One of our recent projects
is dedicated to provide access to life affirming alternatives to abortion to the women of the Valley.
CCRGV is trying to educate our clients about alternatives to abortion and help them make the right
decisions about pregnancy.
This program also offers free and confidential counseling along with parenting classes. Since many
of our clients have a low income, we are trying to build a baby boutique to assist them with any baby
items they might need. Your donation will help us buy item such as diapers, bottles, baby wipes,
baby shampoo, soaps and lotions, clothing, and baby food.
We will also accept any items that may be unsuitable for resale for minor reasons such as open or
torn packaging. Catholic Charities would really appreciate if you take part of this program by
donating any baby items or any monetary assistance that can help us create the baby boutique. The
baby boutique will help alleviate the stress that many of our clients might encounter when they find
themselves unable to obtain the necessary items for their child.
Donations in either form can be delivered to the Catholic Social Services office at 700 N. Virgen de
San Juan Blvd in San Juan, Texas, or donation pickups can be arranged. Please call 956-702-
4088 for more information.
Thank you in advance for your support to Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley.
