THE FAME AWARDS SHOW FEBRUARY 28th
The 15th Annual FAME Awards Show & Ceremony will be conducted on Monday, February 28th, 2011
at the Civic Center in Pharr, Texas.
While the event has been held in the International Convention Center (ICC), located on Hwy. 281, for the the past three years,
the venue had to be changed this year because the ICC is undergoing a new make-over.
"Our older civic center is nice and functional," said Pharr Mayor Leo Palacious. "We are going to keep the FAME awards right here in
Pharr each year. Whatever we have to do, we will do. This is a very good national program. We want FAME here!"
The newer convention center seats about 1,000, where as the older building seats about 450.
"Pharr is made up of nice people," said FAME director Bob Reed. "We want to keep the awards show in Pharr.
They have been good to us."
FAME (Families Advocating Moral Entertainment) will be releasing ballots on or about February 4th with marked ballots due back
to FAME by February 19th for auditing.
Recipients of past FAME awards include Roy Rogers, Hank Thompson, Sherwin Linton, Keith Ross, Doyle Lawson, Jay & Tammy Roy,
Pee Wee King, Del Puschert, Sons of the Pioneers, Merle Haggard, Red Johnson, Fats Dominio, Ike Thurn, Lucy Jackson, Roy Acuff,
Bob Wills, Elvis Presley and many others.
Many newcomers to the Rio Grande Valley made the nominations list this year including:
The Link Family, Redhead Express, The Harper Family, Betty Rydell, Ball Ranch, Auntie Kreamsaugen, Tucker, Gomer Pyle,
Goldwing Express and many more.
Pharr's Jose' "Pepe" Salinas Civic Center is located at 1011 West Kelly, about 3 blocks east of Lowe's (Jackson Road).
While admission to some of the other award shows has risen to upwards of $250, FAME has set admission at $30, ($15 for seniors).
