The Area Agency on Aging/Lower RGV Development Council/Ombudsman Program is looking for Volunteersto help them advocate for residents of local nursing homes and assisted living facilities in relation to resident rights, quality of care, and attempt to resolve resident complaints. There are two paid staff to cover the tri-facilities. For this reason, the Program is in need of volunteers to help handle the responsibility of helping residents address their issues/concerns. Volunteers go through a 30-hour training, then a period of internship where they are accompanied by a staff Ombudsman to the nursing homes. Once the intern becomes certified by the State, they become a Certified Volunteer Ombudsman and are allowed to go on their own. If you have a couple of hours to spare and are interested in making a real difference in the lives of those living who must live in nursing homes or assisted living facilities, please contact an Ombudsman.
